چکیده

An object-based approach to portraying urban systems, based on the priority of spatial relationships, is proposed. Real-world entities are represented by means of unitary fixed and non-fixed objects. Fixed unitary objects are located directly, by coordinates, while non-fixed unitary objects are located by pointing to fixed objects. Self-organizing spatial ensembles of unitary urban objects are represented by means of emerging domain objects. Software objects represent unitary objects and domains as well as the relationships between them. The user is responsible for formulating rules of object creation, updating, and destruction, while the system automatically updates relationships following movements of non-fixed objects, domain self-organization, change, and destruction. A prototype software system for simulating housing dynamics is presented. 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Carsten Jürgens (Ed.): Remote Sensing - New Challenges of High Resolution, Bochum 2008

The new spaceborne very high resolution (VHR) SAR sensors onboard the TerraSAR-X and COSMO-SkyMED satellites have a spatial resolution of up to 1 meter. In VHR SAR data, features from individual urban structures, like buildings, can be identified in their characteristic settings in urban settlement patterns. In the context of situation assessment as initial reaction to man made or natural crisi...

Automated recognition of urban objects

Urban geometry is one of the most important aspects that influence urban microclimatic conditions. Developing and updating databases of urban geometry is, therefore, important for studying climatic aspects of urban form, especially where no town plans or updated surveillance data is available. The current paper presents a parametric model which enables automated recognition of urban objects, in...

Comparative Evaluation of Image Fusion Methods for Hyperspectral and Panchromatic Data Fusion in Agricultural and Urban Areas

Nowadays remote sensing plays a key role in the field of earth science studies due to some of the advantages, including data collection at a very low cost and time on a very large scale. Meanwhile, using hyperspectral data is of great importance due to the high spectral resolution. Because of some limitations, such as hyperspectral imaging technology, it suffers from a reduction in the spatial ...

Segmentation Improvement of High Resolution Remote Sensing Images based on superpixels using Edge-based SLIC algorithm (E-SLIC)

The segmentation of high resolution remote sensing images is one of the most important analyses that play a significant role in the maximal and exact extraction of information.  There are different types of segmentation methods among which using  superpixels is one of the most important ones. Several methods have been proposed for extracting superpixels. Among the most successful ones, we can r...

Introducing An Efficient Set of High Spatial Resolution Images of Urban Areas to Evaluate Building Detection Algorithms

The present work aims to introduce an efficient set of high spatial resolution (HSR) images in order to more fairly evaluate building detection algorithms. The introduced images are chosen from two recent HSR sensors (QuickBird and GeoEye-1) and based on several challenges of urban areas encountered in building detection such as diversity in building density, building dissociation, building sha...
